The One Show highlighted the work of Revival Food & Mood on BBC One on Thursday 30 May. The popular programme featured singer and media star Peter Andre talking about his mental health struggles, and he visited Revival Food & Mood to find out about the amazing work being done by the café and mental health hub in Whitstable.

Peter Andre was given a guided tour by Revival Executive Director Deborah Haylett and heard about the innovative Mental Health Bank, as well as getting the opportunity to join in with the singing for mental health choir (run in partnership with The Time to Shine Project).

Revival Food and Mood launched the Mental Health Bank last year – which is aimed at providing a range of free resources that the local community can access.

The Mental Health Bank harnesses the goodwill of experienced and qualified practitioners who are willing to gift their time for a few hours each month to offer their professional services to support community mental wellbeing. Revival will then host these sessions every week, providing open access to approaches that may otherwise be prohibitive. The skills on offer are incredibly wide ranging, spanning nutritional therapy, compassion therapy, yoga, Pilates, Bowen therapy, hypnotherapy, reflexology and much more.

Executive Director Deborah Haylett said: “We are particularly proud of the Mental Health Bank. It is an innovative approach to non-clinical community mental health support – working with local practitioners to provide four free therapeutic sessions every week, including anxiety coaching, nutritional therapy, yoga for sleep, reiki, therapeutic art, sound healing and so much more.

What sets Revival Food and Mood apart from its contemporaries is its unique focus on mental health and wellbeing. The café offers a broad range of resources and activities designed to support the local community – whether that be via support groups or through learning new skills. Revival provides a space for individuals to improve their mental health in relaxing and comfortable surroundings.

The staff of Revival strive to support their community with free, accessible mental health support and information in calm, inclusive and inviting surroundings with great food and music. Good food and services have the power to enhance our communities and transform our everyday lives. Innovations like Revival Food and Mood are the future of mental health support in our communities.

The vision for Revival Food & Mood evolved over many years and was devised in response to often ‘old-fashioned’ ideas and expectations of mental health spaces and approaches. Revival needed to be different. During the first year on the new premises on the High Street, Revival Food & Mood helped over 2,200 people and ran 364 groups – it also has supported 186 people a month.

Deborah Haylett said: “We are extremely proud of what we have achieved at Revival. We have made a positive impact on so many lives in the local community and we are continuing to grow.

“I was delighted to welcome Peter Andre and The One Show crew to Revival and be able to show them and the viewers what activities we offer. We are running groups and initiatives six days a week including creative groups, peer support, a walking group and activities that provide opportunities for connection and support.”
