Canterbury Courier celebrates Lord Mayor’s mental health campaign
The Canterbury Courier has placed the spotlight firmly on the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Keji Moses, recognising her trailblazing commitment to mental health.
On the front page of the latest Courier edition, the newspaper celebrates her decision to partner with East Kent Mind as her chosen charity for the duration of her mayoral year.
At a launch event held at the Abode Hotel, Cllr Moses officially announced East Kent Mind as her Charity of the Year. The move underlines her determination to strengthen mental health provision across the district, bringing practical support and community engagement to the forefront of her tenure.
The Lord Mayor’s Campaign is aiming to help East Kent Mind create at least 100 Wellbeing Ambassadors throughout the district. These ambassadors will play a crucial role in promoting mental wellness and supporting those in need within local communities.

The launch also saw the announcement of a series of wellbeing-themed events, including:
Cocktails & Connections, which took place on Friday 4 July at Abode Canterbury, offering a relaxed and inspiring evening with a complimentary drink and the chance to meet the Lord Mayor in person. All proceeds from ticket sales went towards East Kent Mind’s vital work.
The Big Walk and Talk, a sponsored walk on Sunday 6 July, invited participants to walk 3, 4 or 5 kilometres from Westgate Gardens. Set under the #WearItBlue theme, the event encouraged walking, talking and raising awareness of mental wellbeing across the community.
Tai Chi with the Lord Mayor, was a July event in the gardens at Whitstable Castle that offered a refreshing and reinvigorating Tai Chi session.
Cllr Moses will also be attending our Mental Elf Canterbury fun run in November – tickets can be bought here: https://eastkentmind.org.uk/mentalelf/
Simon Dolby, Development Lead at East Kent Mind, said: “We are delighted that the Canterbury Courier has celebrated the Lord Mayor’s support. One of the core objectives of the Campaign is to train and establish 100 Wellbeing Ambassadors across the district – and the fundraising support is important in making this wide-ranging programme available.”
Cllr Moses’s Campaign is a powerful reminder that mental wellbeing belongs to us all. Her leadership is encouraging local people and organisations to step forward, encourage conversations and support mental health services like East Kent Mind.
