Bringing Veterans Together: A Festive Celebration in East Kent
East Kent Mind recently hosted a heart-warming festive celebration for members of our Veterans’ Project, bringing people together for an afternoon of connection, companionship and seasonal cheer.
The event took place at Invicta Lodge, Churchill Living in Broadstairs on Saturday 6th December.
The festive occasion provided a welcoming space for veterans to relax, share conversation and enjoy the celebrations in a supportive environment. With food, laughter and plenty of smiles, the event was a reminder of just how powerful it can be to come together with others who understand your experiences.

For many veterans, occasions like this are about far more than celebrations. They offer an opportunity to build trust, reduce isolation and strengthen a sense of belonging.
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere reflected the core aim of our Project: creating safe, inclusive spaces where veterans feel valued, heard and supported. The Chair of Thanet District Council Debra Owen-Hughes was also in attendance to show her support for the Project.
Our Veterans Project, is funded by the Veterans Foundation, and helps support former service personnel across East Kent with their mental health and wellbeing. Through peer support, social activities and tailored guidance, the project helps veterans reconnect with their local community and access the support they need, when they need it.
Karen Brinkman, our East Kent Mind Armed Forces Connector, said: “Events such as this festive gathering highlight the importance of community-led support and the positive impact it can have. Seeing veterans chatting, laughing and enjoying time together is a powerful reminder that nobody has to face their challenges alone.”
If you are a veteran living in East Kent, or you know someone who might benefit from our support, we would love to hear from you. Whether you’re looking for connection, understanding or a place to belong, support is available.
