Tournament to support East Kent Mind
A football tournament staged by Rhys Laker with the support of his Royal Mail colleagues will be held on 21 June.
More than 40 Royal Mail delivery staff from the Canterbury district will take part in the event at Herne Bay Football Club to raise awareness of mental health services.
The public are encouraged to cheer on the teams who represent Canterbury and the villages versus Whitstable and Herne Bay. Royal Mail will match funds raised on the day.
Rhys, from Royal Mail Canterbury, said: “I’ve picked East Kent Mind because a lot of men are suffering from mental health and its a charity close to home. I lost a tutor to mental health in 2020 just before covid, and my partner lost her father to mental health in 2019. This is a charity that is going to help people. The more money raised, the more people that can be helped.”
Simon Dolby, Fundraising Lead for Mind in Bexley and East Kent, said: “We are so pleased Rhys and his colleagues at Royal Mail Canterbury have selected East Kent Mind to give their support to. Physical activity such as football is an excellent way to boost mental health – but the tournament he is staging will also help raise awareness and encourage positive conversations around mental health.”
