A new awards event is to be staged to celebrate community champions and retail heroes across the Canterbury district
This week Active Life officially launched the event. The Revival Community Awards will celebrate the individuals, organisations and initiatives that are helping to make life better in the Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay area.
Staged by East Kent Mind and its social enterprise Revival Food and Mood, the event will champion the unsung heroes of the workplace, those who volunteer, alongside community and business leaders.
Categories are broad-ranging and include staff and volunteers from sports clubs, charities, educational establishments, businesses, council and NHS. These awards are not just for those in leadership – they are to thank those on the front line – the unsung heroes whose dedication and effort deliver small but vital success to their organisation or business.
Simon Dolby, Development Lead at East Kent Mind, said: “The judging panel are looking for individuals reviving our community, businesses, clubs and charities. Whose kindness and compassion is supporting the wellbeing of those dearest to us; whose dedication is making learning in the classroom more successful; who are the office stars and retail heroes that make the working environment a success? It’s time to nominate.”

Simon Dolby, Development Lead at East Kent Mind, joins Julio Barros, Regional Active Community Manager at Active Life to launch the Revival Community Awards.
Julio Barros, Regional Active Community Manager at Active Life, said: “Everyone at Active Life is delighted to be supporting the Revival Community Awards. It’s always important to us to help and celebrate the people, companies and organisations who are supporting the mental health and wellbeing of people across our communities.”
As well as Active Life the awards are supported by SouthEastern Railways, Barretts Group, Canterbury Christ Church University, Whitefriars and CommunityAd. The deadline to submit a nomination is 22 January. An awards celebration supported by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury will take place in March.
