Netball teams battle for tournament glory

Netball teams from across Thanet took part in a charity tournament to raise funds for East Kent Mind.

Eighteen teams battled it out for top honours in an event organised by Thanet Netball League. The event raised £1,379 for the mental health charity.

The tournament’s winners were team Two Timers with Netchix earning the runner-up spot.

Alex Hewitt, Fixture Secretary of Thanet Netball League, said: “What fun we had at our Charity Versatility Tournament. East Kent Mind is a charity very close to many people’s hearts. Everyone had a great time playing out of position and playing with a goal handicap! The support from our fabulous league was amazing.  We had a fantastic raffle with all prizes donated by our teams, sponsors and local businesses. I really want to thank everyone involved – the  players, umpires, spectators, supporters as well as CCGS for the use of their super netball courts.”

Simon Dolby, Fundraising Lead at East Kent Mind, said: “This was a fantastically well-organised tournament and has raised an impressive amount to support frontline mental health services in Thanet – we are enormously grateful.”

Organisations keen to follow Alex’s lead and to stage their own fundraiser to support East Kent Mind should contact simondolby@eastkentmind.org.uk or karenbrinkman@eastkentmind.org.uk when developing their ideas and to ensure they link any donation or sponsorship pages to the local charity.
Simon said: “We always prefer supporters to directly raise funds for our local charity rather than national Mind otherwise funds raised do not go to the local area.”
