East Kent Mind raised awareness at a Kent County Cricket Club game
East Kent Mind staff were delighted to attend day one of Kent County Cricket Club’s match against Middlesex at the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury. The County Championship game was on opportunity to raise awareness of the mental health and wellbeing services available across the local area.
Our Development Lead, Simon Dolby, was at the ground speaking with supporters and sharing information about the work of East Kent Mind. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with people attending the match and highlight the support available for anyone who may be struggling with their mental health, or who would like to learn more or help to support their local wellbeing services.
The day also coincided with a special event led by Mind, called A Day for Thorpey, which celebrated the life and legacy of Graham Thorpe MBE. The former England cricketer. Graham was a much-loved figure in the game, and the event helped raise awareness of mental health while honouring his contribution to cricket.

As part of A Day for Thorpey, special Mind Thorpey headbands were available to help raise funds for Mind. The headbands cost £5 each and are available to purchase through the Mind website.
East Kent Mind would like to thank everyone who stopped to speak with us at the match, including actor Ben Roddy, who was also at the ground to promote the forthcoming Peter Pan pantomime at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, which starts in November.
Simon Dolby from East Kent Mind said: “Events like this are an important reminder of the role sport and community can play in opening up conversations about mental health. By bringing people together, they help reduce stigma, encourage people to seek support, and show that no one has to face mental health problems alone.”
