Recognizing the dedication of veterans
Ex-military who support the community will be recognised at the first Veteran Recognition Awards.
The awards will be staged at the start of a veterans information fair with stands from organisations who provide support to the ex-military community, reservists and adult family members. Alongside this will be a refreshment stand with tea, coffee and cake to ensure the event provides an opportunity for veterans to meet and chat.
Held in historic St Peter’s Anglican Church in the centre of Canterbury, the event will make use of the beautiful nave for the awards element of the event, and the adjoining church hall and garden will be available for the information and social side afterwards.
Tickets for the event are free, but must be requested from Karen Brinkman, Armed Forces Connector at East Kent Mind, by emailing her at karenbrinkman@eastkentmind.org.uk
The information fair and awards event will take place from 2pm to 4pm on Thursday, 25 July at St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Lane, Canterbury.
Anyone can nominate a member of the ex-military community for a Veteran Recognition Award. Nominations can be linked to support of veterans or to
broader community action. Submiting a nomination is easy, simply email karenbrinkman@eastkentmind.org.uk stating why your nominee deserves recognition. Ideally, please also provide contact details for your nominee so we can let them know they are a winner, should the judging panel pick them.
Simon Dolby, Development Lead at East Kent Mind, said: “The veteran community is supported by a number of brilliant individuals who take on a huge range of tasksto support each other and the wider community. No matter how small that act of kindness or support, we would like to see that effort recognised, so do please submit a nomination now.”
Tickets can be requested until the day before the event. Nominations can be submitted until noon on Friday, 19 July.
