Gym members show fundraising mettle

Infinity Fitness Margate staged a marathon fundraiser for East Kent Mind to help support mental health services in Thanet.

More than £300 was raised by the Classathon event, which involved 10 fitness sessions being staged back-to-back on one day. Clients had the chance to pick one or multiple sessions to take part in with fight club, yoga and dance class among the activities on the schedule. Clients paid to join each  session but many were generous and added extra into the collection pot.

Organiser Lorraine Elliott said many gym members suffer from mental health issues and that physical activity improved their wellbeing: “We are acutely aware of the benefits that physical activity bring to improving mental health so it seemed natural to pick East Kent Mind to be the beneficiary of our charity fundraiser. For me personally it has a special importance as I have a family member who has mental health issues.”

Simon Dolby from East Kent Mind said: “The team are so grateful to Lorraine and the staff and customers at Infinity Fitness Margate. Their fundraiser was amazing!”
