Team champion wellbeing at high school
A team of staff from Herne Bay High School have been praised for the wellbeing support delivered to students. The trio have been nominated for this year’s Revival Community Awards.
The annual awards celebrate the individuals, organisations and initiatives helping to make life better in the Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay area.
“Their actions truly reflect the outstanding pastoral care and the positive impact a community school can have on a child’s life”
“In May this year, my son Jacob lost his Dad. This was sudden and devastating for all of us, and especially for Jacob. The care, support and compassion he has received from staff at Herne Bay High School [HBHS] ensured he felt safe and understood during an extremely difficult time.”
Those are the words of Kelly – Jacob’s Mum – as she nominated three of her son’s teachers for a Revival Community Award.
“The care shown by Miss Capon, Mrs Treacher and Mrs Matigh – and the wider school community – went far beyond expectations,” says Kelly.
“The kindness, empathy and consistent communication made a lasting difference to my son’s wellbeing and confidence. They helped him rebuild stability and trust at a time of profound loss and I will always be grateful for their compassion.”
The Revival Community Awards are staged by East Kent Mind and Revival Food and Mood, its Whitstable social enterprise mental health hub and cafe restaurant. The event is supported by SouthEastern, Barretts, Christ Church University, Active Life, Whitefriars, The Riverside, CommunityAd and the Lord Mayor of Canterbury.
Nominations focus on the individuals reviving our community, businesses, clubs, schools and charities.
This is not just about wellbeing. Categories are broad-ranging and include staff from: volunteers, sports clubs, charities, educational establishments, businesses, council and NHS. These awards are not just for those in leadership – they are to thank those on the front line – the unsung heroes whose dedication and effort deliver small but vital successes to their organisation.
